Giveaway in Honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month

In honor of October being breast cancer awareness month, I have a special month-long giveaway to announce, due to the generosity of one of my critique group friends.

Writer and editor extraordinare Alice Muschany, herself a breast cancer survivor, has given me a copy of Chicken Soup for the Soul: Hope & Healing for Your Breast Cancer Journey by Dr. Julie Silver of Harvard Medical School.

Alice is passionate about this topic. Several of her family members have been struck with this disease, and she has written with grace and candor about breast cancer in several media, including the Chicken Soup for the Soul, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Guideposts, and other publications.

Alice has two stories in the Chicken Soup Hope & Healing for Your Breast Cancer Journey anthology -- "Hats off to Betty with Love" and "Forever and Ever."

The front cover of the book states the book's purpose: Surviving and thriving during and after your diagnosis and treatment. Inside the book readers will find inspirational stories and medical advice.

If you would like to win a copy of this inspiring book, just leave a comment on this post this month. I will announce the winner in November.

Good luck to everyone who enters. And hats off to you, Alice, for sharing stories of your journey to healing with courage and compassion.

P. S. Alice also has an essay in the "Pass it On" section of the October 2012 Guideposts magazine.

  1. Yes, Alice is an amazing person and writer, of course! Congrats, Alice, I'm so happy for you. (Don't put me in the give-away because I'm going to buy a couple of Alice's books.)The Guideposts publication is really great, because I know it's not easy getting accepted from them!

  2. Alice is so inspirational in so many ways. Our school librarian is a young mother, and is in the middle of her third chemo cycle--breast cancer--so if I won, she would get the book.

Donna--Tell Alice congratulations for me. Obviously her treatments didn't slow down her red pen one bit ;) She still is the fastest pen west of the Mississippi--maybe east, too.

  3. Hi Donna,
I was lucky enough to win Alice's book Cup of Comfort for Breast Cancer (I have the title wrong, I'm sure). But I'd also love to try and win this... since my mom died of breast cancer, I'm always in awe of the courage others have in dealing with this... go Alice!

    1. Hi Lynn,
I knew your mom had passed but didn't know the circumstances. And you are right about the courage of survivors.

  4. Alice is truly inspiring and is a blessing to her family and all those grandkids! I'm blessed to have her as a critique partner too. My sister is a breast ca survivor! And my niece is fighting furiously against metastasis to her bones with diet and a fabulous attitude. A friend in Atlanta just completed her treatments. This disease is everywhere and we love women like Alice who encourage and inspire those affected. You go, girl!

  9. Thanks all for the lovely comments. Donna's right. I am passionate about talkling about breast cancer. Two of my sisters battled this disease (one twice) along with cousins and aunts. Aunt Celeste is 88 (diagnosed with advance bc in her 40's just like me) and is still going strong. She tells everyone she helps give out Communion to the old people at the nursing home several days a week. Now for brag time: My niece is in her 2nd year of Oncolology Fellowship in Harvard. May every woman fight & win her battle & may breast cancer be whipwed out forever!

  10. Alice, thank you for writing about this important subject. I have known many women that have fought breast cancer and WON thanks to all the education and information we have out there nowadays. I have one friend who was only 33 and did not win her breast cancer battle. I like to support the cause as much as I can in her honor--Teri. Thank you for donating this book! :)
