Pre-Order Storm Country Anthology to Benefit Joplin School District Libraries

It's hard to believe it's been almost five months since the tragic tornado hit Joplin, Missouri.

As the rebuilding and healing continue, the Missouri Writers' Guild is raising funds to help Joplin libraries purchase new books through publication of Storm Country Anthology

Poets and writers throughout the Midwest contributed stories, poems, and essays with storm-related themes for the anthology. I'm excited and honored that my short story, "Golden Lilacs Under the Worm Moon," was selected to appear in Storm Country.

After the anthology is published, a few contributors from the metro-St. Louis area will participate in a book signing, probably some time in mid-November. When details are available I will post them here.

If you would like to pre-order a copy of the anthology, here's how:

Anthologies are available for $10 per copy.

Make checks payable to: MWG Joplin Book Drive

Mail to:
MWG Joplin Book Drive
Missouri Writers’ Guild
1203 Spartina Drive
Florissant, MO 63031

If you have any questions, e-mail MWG President Deb Marshall at mwgpres@gmail.com

All proceeds go towards to the Joplin Book Drive to benefit Joplin School District Libraries.

I put my check in the mail last night so I can be sure to get some copies for family and friends.

  1. Donna, I am so happy to have been part of the editing team for Storm Country, and I'm excited so many of my talented friends (like you!) have stories and poems included. Keep us all posted about your book signing!

  2. Hi Dianna,
You are such a talented and gracious editor. All of you on the editing team of Storm Country deserve a lot of credit for your hard work and skillful touches.
You have my thanks and appreciation for everything you've done to make us writers shine--and to help the libraries in Joplin recover from the tragedy.

  3. Hi Donna. I'm here as the co-host from the Pay It Forward blogfest. Thanks so much for signing up.

And I wasn't following your blog until just now, so the fest is working!

  4. Thanks for your help here, Donna. It is hard to believe how long it will take to truly recover from that twister! People are trying to be back to normal but many still grapple with defining their new normal. We in our local guild can hardly wait to add the Storm Country proceeds to the school libraries. Books won't fix all things, but they are a balm after battering!

  6. Hi Bookie (Claudia),

I can't imagine what you all in the Joplin guild have been going through the past few months.

And I know you were the one who came up with the idea for the anthology. Your idea and the hard work of your local guild, the MWG guild members, editors, poets, and writers who are part of this effort will create many blessings for years to come.

I love your comment that books "are the balm after the battering."

    How true!

  7. I was wondering how the anthology was going. A poem of mine was accepted, and I will gladly pre-order now - thanks for the info. If they'd let us pre-order through indie bookstores, that'd be helping two good causes.

Congrats on having your poem accepted.

You might want to check with Deb Marshall on your Indie bookstore suggestion.
